A Brief History of the Department of Accounting

The Tamkang University Department of Accounting was founded in 1963 and is currently the largest provider of accounting programs in Taiwan. In 1993, we established a Master’s Program and an Executive MBA Program has been offered since 2000. Unfortunately, our PhD program (established in 2004) is no longer admitting new students.

Our Bachelor program prepares students for positions in accounting in the public, private, and governmental sectors. This program also provides most of the education background required to complete the CPA exam and other professional certifications. Our Master’s degree program is meant to develop academic and technical competence in dual-tracks selected by students (practical and professional tracks), cultivate effective researchers, develop analytical and communication skills, and improve proficiency in information technology. The PhD program is meant to prepare students for careers in academia, including all aspects of applied, practical, and scholarly research.

At present, there are approximately 1,000 students in our department, with an annual intake of 200 undergraduates and 50 graduate students. Graduates from the Department of Accounting have access to a global network of over 10,000 alumni, who are making a notable impact around the world.
